MCN's A-Z material terminology guide

1 of 1

Are you living in a material world? Perhaps not.

If you are not quite sure what Dynax, Brexcel or Primaloft materials are, MCN has produced an A-Z guide to get the know-how on all the product terminology.

Get the material know how:

A

ADS: Air Dynamic System, Turbulence free ventilation
ADT: Adjusting Dynamic Technology
Alufoil thermal: Heated lining
Amara: Suede is used to increase grip comfort
Aramid: Impact resistant
Armortan: Fibre bundles that improve abrasion resistance
Aquapore: Waterproof, breathable membrane
Aquaflex: enhanced breathability for superior hot weather performance and outstanding wet weather performance.
Aquatrans: quickly wicks moisture away from the skin

B

Ballistic: Strong reinforced material
Brexcel: Abrasion resistant

C

CE Approved: Product complies with EU Safety regulations
Chamude: Suede or substrate coating, improves absorption, ventilation and warmth-retention
Clarino: Synthetic and flexible
Cordura: Certified fabric that is resistant to abraisions, tears and scuffs.

D

Duralon: abrasion resistant soft and stretchy material
Dynax: abrasion resistant

E

ECE: European Safety Approval
Eva Foam: padding material
Evotec: abrasion resistant

F

Fibretech: World’s leader in composite stainless steel
Firebloc: fire retardant which coats the fibres on leather
Flexisnap: Adjustable collar closure system

G

GORE-Tex: Breathable, waterproof and windproof

H

Hexatec: abrasion resistant
Hiprotec: protective armour, thin and comfortable material
Hydratex: waterproof and breathable membrane

K

Keprotec: Tear and abrasion resistant, heat resistant and durable.
Kevlar: Heat protection prevents the material from melting
Knox: World leaders in Body protection systems

L

Laminated Reflection: Reduced weight and increased flexibility

M

Microtex: lightweight, acoustic absorption material used for exhaust silencers

N

Nappa: Soft surface on fabric or leather
Nubuck: Brushed surface to make it have a suede appearance

P

Pittards: High performance innovative leather
Primaloft: Helps the body retain warmth and conserve energy with insulation
PU injected/hardshell: Abrasion resistant and has plastic insulationfabric to prevent tearing

Q

Quadra Tech: abrasion resistant

R

Ripstop: strong nylon material
Removable Ventilation Panels: Integrated with mesh to ensure breath ability

S

SAFE stitch: Second line of stitching lies under the material after outer layer has been added
Sastec: moulding material
Scotchguard: Stain/Rain repellent
Scotchlite Reflective Material: ensures you are clearly seen, avoiding potential disasters
Schoeller: stretch, hardwearing, reflective material
Schoeller-Nanosphere: Stain resistant
Sheltex: breathable, abrasion resistant material
Spectra: Strong material that is abrasion resistant, waterproof and protects from UV light.
SuperFabric: Ceramic coated fabric to prevent tearing

T

TFL: Solar reflective – dark colours reflected rather than absorbed
Thermo-alu lining: retains warmth
