Q. I’ve just passed my direct access test and I’m looking forward to riding my bike into work. My commute into London should take only about 30 minutes now, maybe a bit less. Can you recommend some good waterproof clothes to wear? I’m on a bit of a budget after buying my bike so I don’t want to spend more than I have to.

A. If it’s rock-bottom prices you’re looking for, get yourself down to Lidl (of all places). They’ve just released a glut of riding gear that’s very cheap. We’re yet to test it, so can’t attest to its waterproof qualities yet, though.

We recommend you take a gander at the MCN Shop and browse all the jackets, suits and trousers for sale. Alternatively, Frank Thomas’s Aqua range won’t break the bank, and their waterproof suits come recommended by many members of MCN staff.
