The front Dunlop Sportmax on my Yamaha FZ6 Fazer is getting due for replacement and I’d like a reasonably priced new tyre that would suit. The rear tyre is also a Sportmax but has lots of life left.
Would you recommend changing both or would it be OK just to renew the front, even if it was for a different manufacturer? Rob Bowker, Manchester
Matched pairs of tyres are best, as a mismatch always carries with it a risk of instability, although your bike doesn’t have radical steering geometry that could make it more of an issue. Your next best option is tyres by the same manufacturer, especially if that firm provided the original equipment, as chances are they will have carried out mixed tyre testing with other models in their range.
