ZZR1100 clutch has given up!

1 of 1

I seem to have a major problem. After riding my Kawasaki ZZR1100 to work on a dairy farm I came back to it after milking to find that the clutch was completely unusable. The lever is solid and when I tried to start the bike there was a loud clanking noise.

It sounds like something has jammed in the works or the plates have fused together. There is a chain that connects the starter motor through a one-way sprag clutch. If that fails it would make a graunching noise. If the tensioner for this chain gives up the ghost it can slap into the clutch basket, but it shouldn’t make the lever seize solid. The chain and assembly is just to the right of the clutch basket.
