Ulster GP reprieved/ BSB bosses compromise on TT

In a dramatic U-turn, the Coleraine Motorcycle Club has decided that it will run the 2002 Ulster GP after all. After announcing its cancellation only a matter of days ago the Club met last night and agreed that it could go ahead as planned.

Doubts over sponsorship and the resignation of clerk of the course Billy Nutt seemed to have sealed the event’s fate. But a committee made up from the Motorcycle Union of Ireland has been appointed to oversee the running of the GP and is looking at several options for a commercial solution.

Meanwhile, BSB bosses have agreed to a compromise that will mean riders can race in next season’s Isle of Man TT and the Snetterton BSB round on June 2. Qualifying at the Norfolk circuit clashes with the Formula One TT on June 1, but there will now be an additional session to be held on Sunday morning to ensure that riders can compete in both events.

MCRCB Chairman, Dennis Carter said, ” The organisers of the TT races asked us to assist those riders wishing to compete in their event and the BSB round. ”
