Ducati tests super single

Ducati has begun tests of a single-cylinder engine destined to find its way into a new range of bikes – including a supercharged one.

For the full story on Ducati’s super single, don’t miss the new MCN, out April 24.

Ducati boss Carlo di Biagio said: ” We have had a supercharged single working on our test benches and are always looking for interesting solutions to creating engines. ”

The motor is based on an updated version of the single that powered the firm’s gorgeous Supermono race bike in the early 1990s. That was based on the water-cooled 916 V-twin with the rear cylinder removed.

Once in production it could be fitted to a whole range of bikes. And if we’re lucky, the long-awaited road-going version of the stunning Pierre Terblanche- designed Supermono racer could even be resurrected.
