Cat and Fiddle among danger roads

1 of 1

The Cat and Fiddle run has been named the second most dangerous road in Britain.

The famous stretch of the A537 between Macclesfield and Buxton was only topped by an eight-mile section of A-road in the Scottish Highlands, that being the A889 near Dalwhinnie. The AA survey actually reveals that road to be TWICE as dangerous as the Cat and Fiddle.

Both roads were included in the 23 which gained no stars under a new European rating. The A889’s accident rate was 14 times higher than the national average.

But Britain’s roads are still far safer than any other European country. On average in the UK 5.9 people in every 100,000 are killed in traffic accidents – compared to 21 per 100,000 in Portugal, which comes out worst – and that comes despite the UK having far more traffic than most other European countries.
