Carnell-City offers deal on Blade insurance

If you’re struggling to get insurance on a FireBlade, or being offered it at a price verging on the impossible, a deal from Britain’s biggest chain of bike showrooms might offer a way forward.

Carnell-City will provide cover on a Blade to anyone who meets its five-point checklist. And it will cost no more than £1000 for TPFT or £1500 for comprehensive insurance, and that’s if you live in the highest-rated post code areas.

To get the deal, you must be 25 or over, have two years no-claims, have held a licence for five years and spent two years without an accident or conviction on a bike that’s 750cc or more.

And your Blade has to be valued on the insurance at £5995, which would be £1600 less than you currently pay for a 2001 model.

The advantage for some will be that a lot of insurers want three years no claims and demand that the bike is garaged before they will even consider you.

The offer only lasts until early February, but if there is a good response, the company may extend the scheme to cover other hard-to-insure bikes such as the GSX-R1000, R1 and ZX-9R.

Carnell-City managing director David Morrow said: ” Customers are put off buying some bikes by the cost of insuring it, not the cost of buying it. Insurance is a massive issue which we are tackling head-on. ”

Cover is provided through Tangent.
