Semtex in and Carmichael out as stunt goes wrong

European stunt champion Kevin Carmichael came a cropper during one of his trademark vertical wheelies in the stunt arena at the Ally Pally show on Sunday.

He lost control of his GSX-R1000 when the rear wheel locked. Unfortunately for the 34- year-old, the bike dropped on top of him, smashing three bones in his left foot.

Despite the injuries, he was back at the show on Monday helping co-ordinate the stunt display and watching his replacement, Jake Semtex, wowing the crowds on his modified Honda CR250 motocrosser.

In typical style, Carmichael got a lift back to the Ally Pally on the back of a KTM LC4 supermoto – even thought he’s on crutches and his leg’s in plaster!

He said: ” The accident was one of those things. I’ve gone four years without injury. I try and keep the risk down, you keep within limits, but there is always a point where it can go wrong. I’ll be out of action for five or six weeks. ”

Freestyle motocrosser Jamie Squibb was lucky to escape injury on Saturday when he parted company with his KX250 crosser – 75 feet above the arena floor.

Squibb, a member of the freestyle jump team, said: ” I blipped the throttle too much as I went up the launch ramp. I tried an Indian Seat Grab, which involves letting go of the bike completely. But I went to grab the fender and there was nothing there.

The Bridgestone Action Zone is easy to find at the Ally Pally show – just look for the 20ft ramp which forms the centrepiece.
