Council threatens anti-ticket "counter-measures"

Londoners who dodge a recent parking ruling will face ” counter-measures ” according to Westminster and Camden Council’s head of parking Alan Clark.

Private forecourts and sky-lights were exempt from public highway status until an adjudicator’s ruling reclassified them as liable for tickets for obstruction.

But by covering their number plates and removing their tax discs owners, of bikes and scooters have been able to avoid the prying eyes of the traffic wardens (or more properly these days parking attendants or ” P.A. ” ), since rules forbid a P.A. from touching the bike beyond slapping on a ticket.

Quite what the council has in mind is open to debate, as covered bikes would be impossible to clamp and locked bikes impossible to tow away. Councils currently only have the right to tow away a bike if it’s illegally parked on the highway and not on a private forecourt.
