Shortcut proves costly for bike cop

California Highway Patrol officer Robert Barrera thought that he could save time by riding his patrol bike along an unopened section of freeway in La Verne, CA.

But he probably wasn’t counting on riding the Kawasaki into a chain link fence at 50mph. Braking hard, the officer escaped with minor scrapes to himself and his bike, but could face charges for trespassing on what is still private property until the road is officially opened.

The Monterey Park police department is apparently still waiting for Barrera to explain what he was doing on the road.
