Couple’s American record bid

1 of 1

The fastest motorcyclist and pillion to circumnavigate the globe (19 days and 8 hours) will begin a new record attempt on the TransAmericas by motorcycle.

The British couple will leave Prudhoe Bay, in Alaska in the USA, and aim to reach Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, within five weeks. The route covers almost 16,000 miles, and the present record stands at 47 days and 12 hours. Kevin and Julia Sanders aim to smash it by at least ten days, raising money for charity in the process.

You’ll be able to follow their progress on motorcyclenews.com, as they will be sending progress reports as they ride through 15 countries.

They’ll be riding a BMW R1150GS, donated by the company. The bike has just been serviced but the Sanders have to prepare for it’s next major service, halfway through the trip, in Tucson, Arizona.

The pair can’t even book hotels in advance, as their schedule is so susceptible to change. However, they do have to bring back an incredible amount of evidence, to be checked by the Guinness Book of Records, and two independent witnesses. Their witnesses are Eric Richards who plays Sergeant Bob Cryer in TV series The Bill and Janie Omorogbe (Gladiator Rio in the TV show).

If you want to make a donation to SOS Cildren’s Villages, email Desire Hyde at info@sos-uk.org.uk, send a cheque direct to SOS UK at 32a Bridge Street, Cambridge, CB2 1UJ (write ” Globebusters ” on the back), or contact them on 01223-365589
