Lock it or lose it, say police

Derbyshire police are advising motorcyclists to take extra precautions after a spate of bike thefts over the last four months.

Since June 2003, 21 motorcycles have been stolen in the Heanor area, with a value of £28,000. Police are working hard to catch the thieves, but until then owners should be more vigilant.

” Several of the bikes have gone from domestic locations, so they aren’t even safe at home, ” said a police spokesman. ” Use that chain and lock. It’s possible to get bolts which fix to the floor or drive and you can chain your bike to that. ”

Have you got any tips to secure your bike? If you’ve got a particularly effective method, or have found a way to get peace of mind at a lower cost, either post your idea on the News discussion board or email mcn.online@emap.com.
