Journalist Norrie Whyte dies

The legendary racing journalist who snubbed The Beatles and pinched Joey Dunlop’s pints has died.

Norrie Whyte – former MCN GP editor passed away in Scarborough General Hospital on Tuesday September 16. He was 61.

He was in North Yorkshire to cover the weekend’s Gold Cup races, but was taken into hospital on September 8 after collapsing.

He’d recently been on the Isle of Man covering the Manx GP races, where he became ill and spent another two days in hospital.

His funeral will be held at St Peter’s Church, Isham, Northants, at noon on Wednesday September 24. Mourners are then invited for a drink in the Conservative Club in Finedon.

The family has requested that rather than flowers, well-wishers should send donations to the Kettering Hospital Special Care Baby Unit, c/o Jack Warwick funeral service, 2a Wallis Road, Kettering Northamptonshire, NN15 6NX.
