Sixty thousand pounds worth of minimotos have been seized and crushed by West Midlands Police since the crackdown last summer.

Hundreds of local residents have phoned in nuisance reports to police since the anti-mini-motorbike campaign started in July 2005, and police in Coventry have confirmed crushing their 200th bike last week.

Police are concerned the bikes will soon been appearing under Christmas trees everywhere next month, and are urging parents not to buy the machines.

According to PC Neale, a crime reduction officer in the area, numerous minimotos received on Christmas Day were being seized on Boxing Day last year.

He also fears 11 to 15-year-olds will inevitably end up having penalty points on their licence before they are even old enough to apply for one.
