Store scoops spills award

Sainsbury’s have been awarded the ‘achievement in reducing diesel spills’ from KillSpills and BMF.

Sainsbury’s won the award amongst competition from other supermarkets, haulage companies and utility companies for their hands-on approach in tackling diesel spills.

The supermarket chain fitted their entire fleet of diesel vehicles with anti-siphon devices that help prevent spillage.

Their driver training manual also instructs users to only fill to the first ‘click’ of the nozzle. They have also put up the KillSpills warning posters in their depots.

KillSpills team leader Stephen Edwards said, “It seems our message has started to head home with many of the haulage companies, Sainsbury’s just had that little bit extra.”

Also commended for their work on diesel spill prevention were the Co-op Wholesale Society for the work they have done on briefing there staff on the dangers of diesel spills.

All Sainsbury’s have to do now is get rid of that fat-tongued chef and they’ll be even better.
