Ban on radar detectors

Radar and laser detectors are to be banned within months and drivers caught using the devices could face fines, penalty points and even have them confiscated.

According to the Department of Transport, “the starting point would be 3 penalty points and a £60 fine.”

The gadgets are to be outlawed under provisions of the Road Safety Act 2006 – the same legislation which recently introduced new penalties for motorists using mobile phones. Satellite-based camera warning systems will remain legal.
