Highway code

I live in the Consett area of County Durham and have for a long time asked the police for action on illegal and bad parking of cars near to where I live. Even though these cars are parked in the wrong direction of traffic flow and half on the footpath, half on the road, causing big problems for other traffic and more importantly for the pedestrians trying to use the foot path, they have turned a deaf ear to this.

One cop even told me that the highway code, which I quoted to him about the parking, was just a rough guide. I think that next time I’m convicted for going over the speed limit I can just write a letter telling the police that the speed signs are just a rough gude. With this sort of sense coming from a policeman no wonder the country is in such a state with cars and bikes getting nicked and then the owners being asked to pay for them by the police before they will investigate. I thought that is what we paid a portion of our council tax for.

It has me wondering why they can’t tell who has nicked a lot of these vehichles when they have so many cameras all over the place and vehicle recognition cameras everywhere. It seems to me if you are law abiding and have all of your details logged with the authorities you are an easy catch and then easy money. There’s no need to get out the car to do the job, as used to be the case, and it’s no longer done with a lot of respect from the community.
