My insurance was cancelled - but I wasn't told

I bought a brand new bike and insured it with Carole Nash. But I was shocked to receive a letter recently telling me they had cancelled my policy from May 18.

I phoned them to ask why and it turned out one of my payments had not gone through properly. They said they had earlier sent me a warning letter by recorded delivery (which we have never had and never signed for) and then another letter by normal delivery (again we have not had it).

I told them that the post office should notify them if a letter has not been signed for, they said yes but it can take a while for the PO to inform them!

Basically they cancelled my insurance without checking I had received their warning letter. I asked why they couldn’t have phoned me (they have my number after all) but they said it wouldn’t be practical.

As a result I’ve been riding around on a £8000 grand bike for several days with NO insurance. It has also cost me because they cancelled the policy.

After a lot of arguing I took another policy out with them and they gave me compensation of £60. But I’m pretty disgusted with my treatment.
