New "biker-friendly" LED road stud

1 of 1

Cat’s eyes are soon to be replaced on our roads by solar-powered LED’s from British company Astucia.

The new light, called the Intelligent Road Stud (IRS), will charge during day light hours, via its solar panels. Just two hours of sunlight will be enough to power the lights for 10 days.

The new lights will be visible for up to 1000 metres ahead, meaning that drivers reaction times will be increased almost 10 times, from 3.2 seconds to 30 seconds.

The new lights are designed to be motorcycle friendly, and only 4mm of the unit is above the road surface.
