Part of IOM TT course to change for 2008

The Department for Transport has reached an agreement with the ACU to seek funding for a new stretch of TT course to run from The Nook to Governor’s Bridge.

The existing road is to be abandoned because of its poor visibility, and it is too narrow to allow trucks and buses to pass freely when the road is open to the public as normal.

The Department of Transport’s Jim Davidson said: “The ACU have said they would like to use the new section of road as the TT course as it’s safer. We’ve only just completed discussions with them.

“The old road will be abandoned as the TT people don’t want it and it would become a maintenance issue for us so we will landscape it and grass it over.”

Alternative schemes including road widening and split carriageways have been discounted as they wouldn’t have improved visibility at The Nook, and would require removal of a large number of trees.

Since 2003, there have been 34 accidents on the road. The works are expected to cause minimal disruption as the new stretch is being built away from the existing road on Government owned land.
