Car design must change

Hit off my bike by a driver who had his Collie dog on the front passenger seat, while eating an ice cream, in a national speed limit area. I was doing 45mph on my 1000cc bike, proper use of speed applied. If I was on a smaller machine I would have been crushed. The size and weight of my bike helped me in the impact, reducing my injuries. I was hospitalized, but not my fault, as the 16 witnesses testified.

The car driver’s punishment? A 2-day driving course. We need drivers to be educated when they get it wrong again and again. Let’s start by reducing the size of pillars on modern cars that can cause huge blind spots, leading to more bike casulties.
