Government secretive on road pricing trials

The Department for Transport has refused to name firms applying to take part in its controversial road pricing trials.

Notices in the Official Journal of the European Union invited bids to take part in demonstrations of road pricing technology due to begin this year.

Motorcyclists will be among 1000 volunteer road users to take part in the tests of pay-as-you-travel technology to be used in road pricing schemes from 2012, according to the DfT.

But the Department will not name firms which have applied.

A spokesman said: “We’re not publishing them at this time. We will put the names of the companies who are awarded the contracts in the public domain.”
The DfT has refused to comment further.
