Disabled and disappointed

I am a biker with only a bike license as I wouldn’t drive a car.

Recently I became disabled, and after losing my bike to mechanical wear and tear and being unable to afford to repair it I sold it for the most I could get which was nowhere near what I had paid or spent on it.

After selling I started to look around for another bike and looked on the Motability site as I am disabled and I note that if you are a car driver you can get any make and model or so it seems.

If you’re a bike rider then you can get any. I emailed the Motability site asking if they had any bike places on the site, but after having a phone call back I was told that there were no plans to have any bikes on the motability scheme for which I feel totally discriminated against.

Yes they did say there are some vehicles that I could get on the scheme called Nippi and Trippi and they can be viewed at www.nippi.co.uk, but these are nowhere near a real bike or what I would be willing to drive.

As I am disabled and cannot drive a car I am losing out on my independence and this hinders me in my disability.

I think it’s time for disabled bikers to get help from the government and the Motability place to provide either real bikes or trikes for disabled riders.

I’m sure I’m not alone in this line of thinking and I would welcome this change. I do feel as though I am being discriminated against because I am bike rider and not a car driver.

Can MCN be a champion for disabled riders also?
