letter to Editor concerning dark visors

Dear Editor, I was amused by Andy Drysdales letter last week, whinging about the ban on dark vizors for motorcyclists and his terror of being injured by sunglasses.

Another MCN week and another dose of victimhood in full flow! Had Mr Drysdale been a Biker in the early seventies when I was wrestling my Kawasaki H2 around London, he would have been aware of the regular reports in MCN and other papers of young riders killing themselves at night by running into stationary vehicles and skips, whilst wearing `cool` dark vizors.

The fact is that even though vizors were a third of the price they are now, young riders would not carry a spare `clear` vizor, when riding with a dark one, therefore come the dark, come the inevitable accident.

The resultant ban on dark vizors has almost certainly saved scores of young lives and as such should have the full support of any responsible rider. As for the old myth about sunglasses being dangerous in accidents..rubbish, I used to race as a clubman in sunglasses and tested that theory regularly without a scratch on my ruggedly handsome face!

For once the powers that be have got it absolutely right and if you only ride to look cool…tough. Chris Devine
