Bikes left out of Budget

Motorcycles are excluded from plans to give people £2000 to scrap their old vehicles for a new one.

Drivers will get the incentive to replace vans or cars at least 10 years old but motorcyclists will not get a penny toward new bikes under the plans in the Budget.

The Department for Business told MCN it was a “short-term targeted boost for the automotive industry and we had to draw the line somewhere”.

The Government hopes the subsidies, available to up to 300,000 drivers from next month, will also help get older and more polluting vehicles off the road.

It’s the second time in as many weeks we’ve been left out of incentives for car buyers.

We’re excluded from plans to give people between £2000 and £5,000 toward electric cars from 2011 – buyers of electric bikes get nothing.
