Spidi confirm airbag prices and details

New for 2009 from Spidi is the upgraded DPS03 airbag jacket – an evolution of the original DPS01 vest from 2000.

Two weeks ago, MCN brought you the news on the DPS03 with spec detail unconfirmed. But here it is.

The jacket is available in plain black or black with fluorescent detailing, the jacket inflates in two stages.

It follows the more traditional clip-to-the-bike via a draw string that can be adjusted for rider comfort.

Once the clip becomes detached in the first 0.4 seconds the upper cushions inflate to protect the neck area.

This is designed to prevent you face planting and the helmets backward movement crushing the vertebrae.

In the next 0.4 seconds the rest of the airbag suit inflates around the torso and back.

The 11cm diameter cushions then gradually start to deflate after five seconds via a uniquely designed valve.

If the cushions aren’t torn or damaged you can then take the jacket to a Spidi authorised centre and have the gas cartridge replaced.

The jacket has a 300D Cordura outer construction with a removable waterproof and windproof membrane so it’s an all-season jacket and comes with CE armour at the shoulders and elbows, too. It’s priced in at £599.
