I'm glad I did a re-test

Re MCN 7 October 2009 – Kevin Ash I started riding back in 1966/7 had various bikes etc.

I took my test back then which was a 20 min ride around a route, answer some questions, emergency stop, slow riding etc. Got a licence, then a car licence.

Decided a while back that the itch/ache at the back of my head would only be satisfied by a bike.

Looked at my licence, which had by now changed addresses a few times and realised that ‘Bikes’ had disappeared.

Usual story with DVLA but could not prove that I was entitled to ride, even got intouch with local MP, he was about as much use as wet toilet paper, so had to do CBT, theory and practical test all over again.

Even though I was not very happy, had to do it to ride a bike legal again.

Did all the business and ride legal again. Even though I believe that I am a pretty decent driver of cars, vans, minibuses etc I thought I could ride bikes!

Well getting to Kevin Ash’s point about retests, it certainly opened up my eyes as to what I was doing wrong, taking for granted ie Hazard perception I thought it was how all of us drive.

In the end I am pleased that I have had a retest and challenged my driving, it has helped in being aware of the things I was doing as well as the things I wasnt doing.

Hopefully will go on to do advanced rider training.

Just love biking even more.
