Mattie Griffin, BMW Motorrad’s Irish stuntman will compete at one of the globe’s largest motorcycle stunt competitions.

The Stunt Riding German Open is held on 17th-18th September at the Hockenheimring circuit in Germany

On his self-modified BMW F 800R, Mattie will be trying to overcome 40 of the world’s best stunt riders in front of a panel of expert judges.

The 31-year-old from Galway, Ireland said: “I’m very excited to be taking part this year – it’s a truly world-level event. The standard of riding is going to be extremely high; there are a lot of new, young riders with phenomenal skills, so I’ve been working very hard to ensure I’m at the top of my game.

“My bike is going to be heavier than some, so it’ll be harder work, but the parallel twin motor is so smooth and has a lot of torque. The bike is also very nimble, which means I can do tricks that they can’t.”

Starting on trials bikes, Griffin learnt to control the bike at low speeds which aids his stunt riding today. In 2008 and 2009, Mattie was ranked fifth in the world at Street Bike Freestyle Riding.

The three and a half minute run will allow the riders to show off their routines and will be judged on their creativity, control, style and technique.
