Tonfanua race circuit: A hidden gem

1 of 3

Over the Easter weekend I discovered the unique Tonfanau race track situated just North of Tywyn in North Wales, right on the coast, in fact its track is as close to the sea as Philip Island!

This club track, run by Crewe and South Cheshire MC is an incredibly friendly place, where the racing takes place under the watchful gaze of local sheep and with a beautiful background of Welsh mountains.

Sunday, the first meet of 2012, offered 16 exciting races for £5 admission. Classes included 50cc, classics, forgotten era and sidecar racing around the 1.1 mile circuit which has great viewing points.

The paddock was open all day and there were no queues anywhere, including away from the circuit at the end of the day.

The new tarmac laid this winter produced a few thrills (just like Brands!) but the programme was completed (unlike Brands). All in all it was a superb day out.

Three more meetings are scheduled this year. The weekend was my first visit and I am definitely going back!
