In what has been another brilliant year in the world of motorcycle racing there is once again an array of outstanding riders vying to secure your vote in MCN’s Man of the Year competition.

While there have been stand out performances in virtually every class of racing, highlights include the epic battle for the British Superbike crown which saw Tommy Hill and John Hopkins start the final lap of the final race of the year neck and neck knowing that the winner takes all.

Brit Hill emerged triumphant in what was the closest and most exciting finish to any championship in recent memory.

Hill wasn’t the only Brit success story, In World Supersport, 24 year old Chaz Davies overcame technical problems to win a fiercely fought title race with a demonstration of supreme race pace and consistency.

In MotoGP, Casey Stoner switched from Ducati to Honda and regained the MotoGP crown he last won in 2007. In what was a jaw dropping display of speed and talent, the young Aussie looks unstoppable and is well placed to become an all-time great.

In WSB, Carlos Checa buried the demons of his crash strewn past to win his first world title of his 20 year career.

The popular Spaniard called upon his decades of experience to mount a near perfect title campaign that saw him win 15 races and only finish off the podium five times from 26 race starts.

On the flip side to the accolades of race wins and championship glory, motorcycling lost one of its brightest burning stars when Italian Marco Simoncelli tragically lost his life at Sepang in October.

The entire racing world grieved for the loss of one of their own and the loss of a man that was guaranteed to have a major impact on the sport we love.
