MoT shake-up planned

Motorcycles could face tougher MoT-style tests under EU proposals.

A planned Europe-wide annual inspection could be more expensive and complicated than the MoT bikes currently undergo in the UK.

The new test regime could also be used to restrict modifications to bikes according to the Motorcycle Action Group.

The group’s General Secretary Nich Brown said: “We could be faced with a far more costly and complicated test, without seeing significant benefits.

“This could open the door to a German-style system where modifications to the vehicle have to be registered and checked at the test.”

MAG has criticised the plans because countries with no MoT-style test “do not appear to have significantly worse safety issues,” Brown added.
