Electric motorcycles have taken another step closer to the mainstream with the news that electric motorcycles pioneer, Brammo, have been taken over by the huge Polaris Industries – the corporation behind Indian and Victory.

The deal, announced yesterday, sees Polaris acquire the Brammo electric motorcycle business and is expected to lead to the production of electric bikes at Polaris’s huge Spirit Lake, Iowa, facility, during the second half of 2015.

US-firm Brammo, based in Oregon, have been one of the world’s leading electric motorcycle developers with its Enertia and Empulse bikes based around what’s considered ‘industry-leading’ lithium-ion electric drivetrain technology.

Polaris, the huge snowmobile, ATV and, more recently, Victory and Indian motorcycle corporation, has been an investor in Brammo since 2011.

Polaris Chairman and CEO Scott Vine said:
“We have enjoyed our involvement with Brammo Motorcycles over the past three years, and our excitement about their industry-leading lithium-ion electric drivetrain technology has increased commensurate with their improvements in cost and performance. Polaris and Brammo share a goal of adding the most advanced and highest capability electric solutions to Polaris’ portfolio of leading powersports products.”

He continued:
“Today’s announcement strengthens not only Polaris’ commitment to bringing our consumers lithium-ion electric solutions, but also this partnership’s ability to continue innovating and developing leading electric drivetrain technology. We anticipate a return on these investments and believe the new alignment brings us that much closer to delivering world-class electric solutions across our products.”
