Event: Going straight at Shakespeare County Raceway

1 of 1

Event: Public track weekend, Shakespeare County Raceway, Strafford-upon-Avon, CV37 8LL

Date: June 11-12

Leave the traffic light GP behind and come and test your metal at one of the UK’s best-loved drag strips this weekend. Shakespeare County Raceway in Stratford-upon-Avon is opening up to the public this weekend, allowing riders of all types of bikes access to the quarter-mile strip for non-stop straight-line fun.

Drag racing is one of the most accessible forms of bike sport, and whatever your age or experience, the thrill of perfecting your ideal launch, gearshifting at the precise time, and bettering your quarter-mile time becomes seriously addictive, especially if you’re going head-to-head with friends.

Running on both Saturday and Sunday, riders get plenty of opportunity to hone their drag skills as a single payment of £25 gets you unlimited runs up the strip, or you can get a full weekend pass for £40.

This isn’t just the preserve of sportsbike riders, a wide range of machinery joins the queue in Shakespeare County’s Fire Up lane, and a typical weekend sees everything from full-on dragsters do battle with tourers, adventure bikes, and even scooters. Simply turn up on the day, run your bike through a quick scruitineering check (to ensure it’s not leaking fluid and its brakes are in order), then enjoy a day of full throttle fun. You even get a print out of your best times at the end of each run to prove your drag racing prowess.

When it comes to fun, drag racing is one of the most value-for-money activities you can do with your bike; you’ll love every split second of it.

Details: Entry to the raceway costs £12 (£22 for a weekend pass), and track access costs £25 for all-day unlimited runs (£40 weekend) www.shakespearecountyraceway.com
