A stunt rider died following an accident while on set filming for Deadpool 2 in Canada yesterday.

Professional AMA racer Joi ‘SJ’ Harris was performing as a stunt double for actress Zazie Beetz who plays Domino in the upcoming film when she lost control of her bike before crashing through a glass window of a studio inside of Shaw Tower, Vancouver.

Deadpool star, Ryan Reynolds expressed his grief at the loss via his social media channels stating, “Today, we tragically lost a member of our crew while filming Deadpool. We’re heartbroken, shocked and devastated… but recognise nothing can come close to the grief and inexplicable pain her family and loved ones must feel in this moment.

“My heart pours out to them – along with each and every person she touched in this world.”

It was reportedly the first time that Joi was performing as a stunt rider in a film.

Filming for the sequel began in June with an expected release date in June 2018. Production on the film was stopped immediately following the accident though and it is unclear at the moment when it will resume.

A witness said, “The motorcycle came flying over the street, it looked like off a ramp because it was in the air [with Joi] standing on the bike. Slams into the building clearly out of control and clearly not planned.

“There didn’t seem to be a big panic, I thought that maybe it was part of the movie, but it looked so out of control. To me it looked like an accident.”

Joi came from Brooklyn, New York and was the first licensed African American woman to race professionally at AMA level. MCN wishes to join the wider motorcycle community in offering condolences to Joi’s family and friends.
