With looks that only a mother could love, Energica’s new creation is certainly a break from the norm.

No, it’s not April 1st. This is a genuine new “electric streetfighter” from Italian electric bike manufacturer Energica and it’s called the Midnight Racer. The Midnight Racer is a customised Eva that is collaboration between Energica and Apache Custom Motorcycles, who helped Energica with the styling of the standard Eva.

Apache say the styling cues have been taken from Grand Prix racers of the 70s and the custom fairings, which were handmade from scratch, took over 280 hours of work. The British Racing Green paint has been chosen to make the bike appear noble and elegant while the headlights, which aren’t to everyone’s taste, are from an old rally car. At the heart of the bike is the 100kW motor from the Eva, so the Midnight Racer goes from 0-60mph in just 3 seconds and has a range of 125 miles on a full charge.

Commenting on the distinctive styling, Apache said the “Midnight Racer is a roar of the engine to the eye, not to the ears. It is a perfect fusion of past, present and future. It’s a race in the night, a beacon that lights the way and it is silence.”

That’s us told then.
