A British motorcyclist has become the youngest person to circumnavigate the globe by motorcycle solo and unsupported after he returned home just before his 24th birthday.

Kane Avellano, from South Shields, travelled over 32,000 miles in just under eight months, visiting 35 different countries in six continents on his Triumph Bonneville.

Speaking about the journey, Kane said: “The past eight months have been the most exciting in my life. I had the chance to discover what the world really has to offer, to meet many different people along the way and explore their cultures, religions and behaviours, while having an incredible time.”

As you would expect from such a mammoth undertaking, it wasn’t all plain sailing. Kane and his Bonneville faced many hardships, including torrential Monsoons in India, blistering heat in the deserts of Australia, powerful storms in South America and freezing weather in Europe, but he says: “Every moment has been worth it. I faced each challenge with excitement, not knowing how I would overcome it or who would help me!”

While traversing the globe, Kane was also raising money for Unicef, the world’s leading organisation for children. “I have 2 younger brothers, and when I see the appalling situations that millions of children are facing including violence, disease, hunger, and the chaos of war and disaster in today’s world,” said Kane.

“I imagine how this could be my brothers in the same situations and that I would do anything and everything to prevent this from happening. This is a real opportunity for me to make a difference to these children and ensure that they are able to reach their full potential.”

So far Kane has raised over £2000 via his Just Giving page, over 200% of his original target.
