BMW designers get creative with concept bike based on a Lego model

BMW designers have been having some fun with their R1200GS motorcycle, with students getting creative with the iconic adventure bike. The mad design you see above was inspired by the Lego Technic model that was released at last year’s Milan show.

Lego models usually come with alternative building instructions for model kits to allow for more than just one model to be built – more for your money and all that. Anyway, the alternative model in the R1200GS Lego kit, released in January, is a hover bike. So BMW thought they’d let some of their designers loose on a GS to build the alternative model, in real life.

It’s fair to say there are a few more pieces involved in making the life-size replica model than the 603 that are offered in the Lego kit. The result however, is this bizzare and futuristic looking machine, built by BMW’s Junior Company that focusses on training and development of BMW employees. Sadly though, neither the Lego or life-size models fly.
