GSX14 passes track test

Published: 25 August 2004

The GSX1400 made its track debut on August 25 at a Rockingham track evening - and it worked a treat.

Stiffening up the suspension seemed to transform the bike to the point it was grinding the pegs at every corner and feeling composed around the twisty Rockingham circuit.

The initial plan was to stay away from the track because the bike is so big and cumbersome. But I found myself talked into it by fellow GSX1400 owners. It was the "shandy-drinker" jibe which did it - my place was booked within minutes of reading it.

Owners of GSX1400s will be glad to know the big old bus has the ability to stay on the pace in the novice group, even ridden by a track day beginner on only his second day on circuit.

The bike, supplied by Fowlers (0117-977-0466 or www.fowlers.co.uk), was stable and the Metzeler Roadtec Z6 tyres gave no dramas, even though they're more slanted towards sport-touring than track work.
