Metisse Motorcycles is producing a limited run of 300 replica Steve McQueen Desert Racers and MCN takes one for a spin in next week’s paper, out August 26.
Desert racing was McQueen’s forte. His chosen tool a UK-made Rickman-Metisse MkIII frame and a Triumph TR6 parallel twin engine. This combination, along with McQueen’s and Ekin’s choice of component parts, was such a success it led to McQueen saying in 1966: ‘This is the best handling rig I’ve ever owned’.
In next week’s paper we find out if McQueen’s statement still holds true.
