If you've read the hyperbikes v superbikes road test in this week's MCN, you'll know that we were recently at Bruntingthorpe proving ground speed testing some of the fastest bikes you can buy.
I went along on my GSX-R600 to shoot the video (watch it here), but also because I wanted to take it for a thrash on the runway.
I'd been dying to see what it can really do and this way I could experience it in relative safety and without the risk of a jail sentence.
I had a couple of runs and managed to see 163mph on the clocks - the fastest I've ever gone by a comfortable margin! I was on the redline in 6th gear, but there's a skill to top speed testing and I thought in the interest of science it would be best to get someone who knows what they're doing to give it a proper go.
So I asked Bruce Dunn - experienced road tester and the guy who does all of our datalogging and speed testing - to strap the electronics on it and do a couple of properly measured runs.
Here's what Bruce discovered:
- My GSX-R600 will do a genuine 160.83mph
- It hits 0-60 in 3.51 secs
- 40-100mph in 4.57 secs
- 0-120 in 9.98 secs
Not bad eh? As quick to 60 as a Ferrari 430 Scuderia, for less than £8k.
