The new BMW R1200R is impressive in the torque department
MCN Chief Road Tester Trevor Franklin is currently in deepest Wales testing the new BMW R1200R, it’s the last of the Boxer engine range to receive the new four valve DOHC engine; first seen on the BMW HP-2 Sport in 2009. Here are his first impressions:
“The power output is a claimed 110bhp but it’s the 84ftlb torque that is most impressive, at any point of the rev-range the new engine drives forward both swiftly and smoothly. There are numerous styling tweaks for 2011 including a new dash, aluminium one-piece fat bars and other small cosmetic detail changes. We’re riding around the mountain roads of Mid-Wales and despite the rain and the low cloud hanging over the mountains everyone is having a ball on the BMW urban roadster.”
