One of the undoubted stars of Carole Nash Live at the NEC just before Christmas, standing out like a lump of coal in freshly-fallen snow, was the unveiling of a special, all-black, ‘blinged-up’ version of Norton’s 961 Commando Café Racer.
The Commando 961 Cafe Racer ‘SP’, as Norton call it, was originally conceived as a one-off ‘show special’, but interest was so intense that Norton are now putting the machine into limited production.
But how ‘SP’-ecial is this new version exactly? And how does it compare to the current benchmark British retro café racer, Triumph’s popular – and much cheaper – 900 Thruxton?
