Fly-by-wire for 2008 Harley-Davidson tourers

1 of 3

Harley-Davidson’s touring range – the Road King, Street Glide and Electra Glide models – have also been given the once-over for 2008.

As well as gaining optional ABS the bikes have been give a raft of improvements including Harley’s first fly-by-wire throttle system.

The firm’s Electronic Throttle Control (ECT) dispenses with a normal throttle cable, and instead takes an electronic signal from the twistgrip to the fuel injection. As well as cleaning up the styling by removing the throttle cable, the system allows the fitment of a new generation of cruise control, which will be standard on the Ultra Classic Electra Glide, Road King Classic and Street Glide, and optional on other touring models.

All the bikes in the touring range get a bigger fuel tank, up from 18.9 litres to 22.7 litres.

Prices for the 2008 machines start at £12,325 for the Electra Glide Standard, and range to £17,725 for an Anniversary version of the Ultra Classic Electra Glide with ABS.
