Honda has made a serious of minor tweaks to the bottom-of-the-range Lead 100 to get it through new emissions regulations and improve its ride.
The air-cooled 100cc engine has been changed for a 108cc liquid-cooled four-stroke single, with a fuel injection system to ensure it passes emissions. Honda claim that a larger airbox, silent cam drive and new exhaust mean the bike is very quiet. The radiator is integrated into the side of the engine like the Zoomer 50, and the engine is now electric start only – a kickstart is no longer fitted.
The whole scooter is slimmer and longer, and a larger fuel tank is now contained under the footboards, and Honda say geometry changes allow the Lead to retain the same tight turning circle despite a longer wheel base. It has a bigger 12” aluminium front wheel, and a disc brake for the first time, which is operated by a combined system which also activates the rear drum. The styling has also been updated to give the Lead a classier feel and appearance closer to Honda’s larger scooters. Price should remain close to the current price of £999.
