BMW unveils C1-E scooter prototype

1 of 2

BMW has revealed pictures of a new electric enclosed scooter prototype – the C1-E. Based on the design for the discontinued C1, the concept is updated with a lighter rollover cage covered with clear plastic, where the original had a more substantial roof. The electric motor is powered by lithium ion batteries with technology developed by electric scooter manufacturer Vectrix.

BMW is saying there are no plans to put the scooter in to production in this format, but the ideas from the prototype will be put in to future models. The potential to launch the bike with a low-emission, fuel-efficient internal combustion engine is also mentioned, hinting that BMW could be looking to give the scooter with a roof concept another go, even if it doesn’t have the electric motor.
