World’s best trackday Yamaha R1?

Any idiot can throw 20,000 Euros at a 2009 Yamaha R1.

But the race-ready special featured in next week’s MCN (out September 23) is almost five stone lighter than standard and shows how to spend that kind of money wisely.

It’s the latest project to emerge from the workshop of Dominik Klein, a German Yamaha dealer with a long history of building superb road and race bikes.

“The standard R1 is a fantastic street bike, but not a perfect race bike, so I tried to keep that fantastic rideability of the new R1 for an uncompromising race-bike,” Klein told MCN.

“I think I brought home the bacon.”

Find out how Klein got 188bhp and 84lb-ft out of the engine and sliced off 30kg to make one of the best trackday R1s ever.
