These are the first official photos of Moto Guzzi’s all-new 2013 California 1400 released in advance of next week’s unveiling at the Milan Show.
As expected it’s a classic, transverse V-twin, shaft-drive cruiser but it’s fabulous styling, mouth-watering finish and class-leading high tech has taken everyone by surprise.
It comes in two forms – the California 1400 Touring pictured here, complete with panniers and screen and which most closely harks back to the original, and an unclothed ‘Custom’ variant.
Both are powered by an all-new transverse V-twin shaftie displacing 1380cc and producing a claimed 96bhp @ 6500rpm and a meaty 120Nm at just 2750rpm.
Ride-by-wire enables three switchable power modes plus cruise control; While both an all-new double cradle frame complete with elastic engine mounts and a fully revised Cardon shaft-drive system combine to give what Guzzi claim is class-leading smoothness.
