American manufacturer Motus has shown the final production version of the 1650cc V4 sports touring Motus MST which is scheduled to go on sale in Autumn this year; a delay over the initial aim of 2012.
There is a little bit of deja vue with what Motus has done this weekend as the firm showed off the ‘final’ version of the bike at the Laguna Seca MotoGP round last year.
This first version of the bike was seen in public two years ago at the same Laguna Seca MotoGP event in California but the firm has been hard at work getting the bike ready for production. There have been some changes to the bike, which is available in two specifications, including the decision to switch from Gasoline Direction Injection (GDI) to more conventional fuel injection system on both versions.
The MST-01 has a 1650cc across-the-frame V4 with a claimed 165bhp for the entry-level bike and an ambitious 185bhp claimed for the R version but this was before the firm opted to ditch GDI on the R version. It’s not entirely clear what the power of the higher specification machine is as technical details are still a little sketchy.
Motus call their V4 ‘half a V8’ and makes much of its American muscle car heritage. The engine has been developed by Katech in the USA and despite being an all-new design mixes new injection technology with old school two-valve cylinderheads and pushrods.
Motus boss Lee Conn added: “After the US, we’re looking overseas. The number one priority is getting them to American dealers.”
