KTM 1290 Super Duke R breaks free

KTM’s much-anticipated 2014 Super Duke R has been spied many times by MCN during its development, and now KTM have released the first official pictures and technical specifications of the all-new super-naked.

It’s not all about outright performance though, with the Austrian firm claiming excellent fuel consumption figures, and 15,000km (9300 mile) service intervals for the 1301cc 75-degree V-twin.

But make no mistake, the madness is just below the surface of the minimalist bodywork. 180bhp, and 106ftlb of torque, all wrapped up in a 189kg package is going to be anything but tame when you pull the pin.

With Combined-ABS and Brembo M50 monoblock calipers there should be no trouble stopping again, while the ABS also boasts different modes. Ride-by-wire and traction control help to interpret the rider’s wishes, and deliver optimum power for the available grip.

There are three riding modes: Rain – smooth, limited power, with early intervening traction control. Street – sporty but effective, always appropriate and super-swift. Sport – the full works. Then there’s Supermoto ABS for drifters, and it can be switched off if you think you can out brake Bosch’s finest.
